FAO marked the day on October 16, 2026, with the theme “Innovate today. Nourish tomorrow.” and gave awards for new ideas.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, known as FAO, celebrated World Food Day on October 16, 2026. The day is held on the same date every year, and the theme for 2026 was “Innovate today. Nourish tomorrow.” According to FAO, events for the day took place in more than 150 countries and in more than 50 languages.

In FAO's view, the theme is about combining new solutions with traditional knowledge so that everyone can get enough safe and varied food. It also means looking after the planet for the people who will live after us. FAO notes that innovation is already changing many steps in the journey of food, from production and storage to transport and sale.
