On July 25, 2026, UNESCO added four tidal flat areas to a World Heritage site in South Korea, where many birds rest and feed.

On July 25, 2026, UNESCO's World Heritage Committee agreed to make a World Heritage site in South Korea bigger. The site's name is Getbol, Korean Tidal Flats, and getbol means tidal flat in Korean. The committee made the decision in Busan, South Korea, at its 48th session, which ran from July 19 to 29.

A tidal flat is a wide, flat area of mud or sand along the coast. The sea covers it at high tide, and it is uncovered again when the tide goes out. Although a tidal flat may look empty, its mud is full of life, including many small animals such as crabs.
