Spain's Sorolla Museum opened its new extension on October 15, 2026, while the painter's old house stays closed for repairs.

The Sorolla Museum in Madrid, Spain, opened a new building to the public on October 15, 2026. Spain's Ministry of Culture, which runs the museum, announced the opening one day earlier. The museum had been closed since October 2024 so that builders could extend it and repair it.

The museum is in the house where the Spanish painter Joaquín Sorolla lived and worked with his family. Sorolla bought the first piece of land in 1905, and the house was built in 1911. He designed the garden and chose its plants, and it later became one of his favorite subjects to paint. In her will, written in 1925, his wife Clotilde left the house and her collections to the Spanish state. The museum opened there in 1932.
