In 1945, as the Second World War was coming to an end, delegates of 50 countries met in San Francisco. From April 25 to June 26, they worked together at the United Nations Conference on International Organization. There were 850 delegates, and with their advisors and the conference staff, the total reached 3,500 people. The conference adopted the Charter on June 25, and the delegates signed it the next day. The signing took place in the Herbst Theatre, inside the city's Veterans War Memorial Building. Poland was not at the conference, but it signed the Charter later, on October 15, 1945. This made Poland one of the 51 original members of the UN.
